Foundation/Programs

The FAFP Foundation funds a variety of programs and projects to achieve excellence in healthcare and family medicine.

Since 2006, the FAFP Foundation has presented annual scholarships to outstanding third-year family medicine residents in Florida.* The program is merit based, and scholars are chosen by an FAFP Foundation selection committee. The winner(s) are awarded $1,000 each at the Family Medicine Winter Summit, held annually at The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island. The FAFP provides one complimentary hotel night and awards are presented at the Inauguration and Recognition Celebration Saturday evening.

The Foundation provides financial assistance to Florida residents and students attending the American Academy of Family Physicians’ National Conference in Kansas City, MO every July. This annual conference exposes students to family medicine residency programs, residency directors and residents serving in programs throughout the United States. As the future of family medicine, students learn firsthand about the rewarding specialty and participate in debates on current healthcare issues.  Funding is provided to FAFP resident and student leaders to attend.  Specifically, medical student directors from each medical school are given funds to recruit peers to attend with them in Kansas City.  For further information, please contact Ashleigh Huff at ahuff@fafp.org.

The FAFP Foundation realizes that not all residents are capable of attending FAFP Continuing Medical Education weekend meetings due to financial limitations.  Therefore, the Pay it Forward Program was created to assist with sending more residents to FAFP CME Weekends via the following guidelines and application.  CLICK HERE for more details.

OGMS awards are intended to honor fourth-year graduate medical students who have exemplified excellence throughout medical school and have expressed a desire to match in family medicine.  Up to $500 annually can be requested by any Florida allopathic medical school annually, with only the amount matched by the medical school being granted.  Only fourth-year medical students will be eligible to receive the award and the student must be an AAFP/FAFP member.  CLICK HERE to download the application form.
