National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students

The Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP) would like to thank all of the students, residents and faculty that joined us for the 2011 AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students, July 28-30, 2011, in Kansas City, MO. We appreciate all the students who joined us to learn more about family medicine and Florida's residency programs as well as all of the residents and faculty who hosted students and helped introduce them to family medicine in Florida.  Florida had terrific representation and tied with the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) for the most Students and Residents registered for the 2011 AAFP National Conference!

FAFP would like to recognize the following on their accomplishments during the National Conference:

Resident Chair of the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students 2012

Kevin Bernstein, MD, MMS

From our 9 Residency programs, the FAFP sponsored the following:

  •        Five FAFP Student Directors;
  •        Three FAFP Residency Directors; and
  •        27 Students.

The total for Florida was 71 Students and Residents that attended National Conference on behalf of Florida.  Preliminary attendance included 798 Students, 1,026 Residents (including Resident Exhibitors), 842 other Exhibitors, and 481 others (including staff, speakers, Chapter staff, etc.) for a grand total of 3,147 attendees. Again, we would like to thank all who attended as well as the members who helped send students to National Conference. Your contributions were greatly appreciated and helped make a difference in a student's decision to choose family medicine.

Summary of Action: 2011 National Congress of Family Medicine Residents

The 2011 National Congress of Family Medicine Residents (NCFMR) considered 19 resolutions, on topics ranging from the need for a policy on pharmacies administering vaccines to a proposal to create a National Conference video contest for residents and students to promote family medicine. A total of 12 resolutions were adopted and two resolutions were reaffirmed as current policy and programming. A summary of NCFMR action can be viewed by clicking here.
