Statewide Tobacco Education and Use Prevention Program - Capitol Update Week 6

Statewide Tobacco Education and Use Prevention Program – Senate bill adopted

Florida’s Constitution requires the Legislature to annually appropriate 15 percent of funds paid by the tobacco settlement to be spent on tobacco education. The Constitution also provides for an annual adjustment for inflation. The House Committee adopted its budget last week fully funding the program with a $64,289,944 appropriation. Last week, The Senate Budget Committee also adopted its budget and fully funded the program. The Senate budget now awaits approval by the full Senate followed by a budget conference with the House. ALAF is now reviewing the specific program allocations within the budget proposal.
